Juan Griego, a delightful small town on a picturesque harbor and home port to Grand Illusion, is only a few minuttes drive away. another short scenic drive away is the picturesque fishing village of Manzanillo. For other atractions, further afield, the reception desk will provide you with good information.
All drinks, meals and activities at the hotel are included in the tour price. for anything else, you are on your own. We would, however, recommend a good nights sleep -- for your early morning departure on Grand Illusion
Day 2
An early breakfast will be provided at the hotel. However, should you wish to skip it and get a bit more sack time, you will be able to satisfy your bacon or coffee cravings aboard Grand Illusion. Having deposited your main baggage, for safekeeping, with the hotel, at 7 a.m. you will be taken, with your camping kit, to Juan Griego where you will board Grand Illusion.
Depending on weather and our chosen destination this trip will vary from an exciting high speed 3 - 4 hour romp to a very exciting, very high speed 2- 3 hour dash. We will be dragging a few high speed fishing lures behind us in the hopes of getting a wahoo for lunch but this is definitely a "get there as soon as we can" kind of trip.
Upon arrival at our chosen destination, Grand Illusion will be moored with her bows only a few feet off the beach, equipment will be unloaded and the beach camp set up. Having worked up a serious appetite, we will then satisfy it with an extravegant buffet lunch. After lunch, those who can resist the temptation of a shaded hammock or air matress, may choose from any of the many activities available.
By mid afternoon, those who have managed to escape the clutches of their hammocks and had a cup of tea and a snack, may choose to join the others with a bit of fishing, snorkeling or exploring in any of the tenders. Later on, with the sun losing its sting, might be a good time for a hike or even a game of beach football or cricket --- seeing as these are the national sports of the Caribbean.
After a few sunset cocktails and canapes, it would be time to face the buffet table once again. After dinner activities, depending on the mood, might range from watching a dvd of the days trip to board games – or even wild dancing around a bonfire on the beach. However, those wishing to participate in the fishing / snorkeling / exploring trip aboard Grand Illusion early the following morning, may wish to get an early night.
Day 3
Soon after sunup, all fishing and snorkeling enthusiast should be aboard Grand Illusion - tucking in to the breakfast buffet. Others, who prefer to spend the morning pottering around the beach camp or exploring by foot, sunfish, kayak, or wind surfer may stay in bed as long as they choose.
Ample supplies for breakfast and mid morning snacks will be left at the beach camp. Naturally, a guide or two will also remain at the beach camp -- to assist in any way they can. Grand Illusion will allways be within radio contact and only a few minutes run away-- if required.
Fishing activities may include: light tackle fishing for snappers and jacks, drift fishing for dorado and tuna or high speed trolling for wahoo and marlin. Snorkeling / free-diving may range from a gentle drift over a protected coral reef with gorgeous tropical reef fish, to battling the waves around a craggy mid ocean rock-- surrounded by large denizens of the deep.
Shortly after noon, grand illusion should be once more back at the beach camp for a repeat of the previous afternoons activities ---- with whatever variations one might fancy.
Days 4 & 5
Continued variations on a theme
Day 6
After an early breakfast, we will pack up the beach camp and head back to Margarita. Depending on weather, we should be back anchored in Juan Griego harbour around noon. It will then be time for a farewell glass or two of champagne.
You will then be taken back to your hotel for lunch - followed, one might imagine, by a long siesta. Later in the aftenoon might be a good time to check out the duty free shopping in Porlarmar. That evening, depending on your scheduled departure time the following day might also be a good opportunity to sample the night life of Margarita.
Day 7
Back to the airport and back to reality---- with many precious memories of sharing a "Grand Illusion" with many new friends.
