You probably don't remember me and, to tell the truth, I don't remember you either. However, in my case, this may have a little something to do with overindulgence in the sixties culture - while you were getting shot at in Vietnam. Anyway, we were both born in 43 ( you in December and I in February) and we both went to St Paul's. I know you graduated in 62.
I never did graduate (I flunked out after 2 years) and I don't know if I was in your class or not. Some of the names I remember from my class are: David Niven, Craig Leonard, Tim Carper and Tad De Bordenave. I think there was also a Tiffany and a Mellon, but I don't remember their first names. My name, by the way, is Robby (Bob, at St Paul's) New and my nick name was "Grouper" .
I have been pursuing my "Great white Grouper" since my St Paul's days. My "Great pursuit" or my "Grand Illusion" is a mega catamaran. When I was 15, a 100 ft catamaran really was mega . Nowadays, of course with fast ferries and very large pleasure catamarans, "mega" doesn't mean that much any more.
Coincidentally, we both came from financially modest (compared to the the Mellons and the Tiffanys) backgrounds and we both married into wealthy families. Clearly, however, I didn't manage things quite as well as you did. In fact, I have spent the greater part of my adult life living well below the poverty line.
Only at this late date, have I scraped together the wherewithal to build my "Grand Illusion"
and I am still trying to scrape together the funds to commission it. If you are in touch with any of our classmates (if, in fact, we are classmates) who are into boats and such, I would appreciate your pointing them to this website.
I know you were, and possibly still are into kiteboarding. As I am sure you know, our neck of the woods is among the top kiteboarding areas of the world. Of course there is the small matter of politics. Speaking of politics, I am sorry you didn't make it the last time around.
I would have voted for you, but some time back, I was relieved of my U.S. citizenship - for not joining you in Vietnam.
I wouldn't feel too bad about the election, however, you got an awful lot of votes. In fifty years, virtually the only vote of confidence, I ever recieved, was from my mother. Anyway, as another "could have been" contender, if you feel like following in Al's footsteps and pursuing the environmental thing, we have just the project for you. We can't guaranty you the Nobel peace prize - but we can guaranty you some excellent kite surfing
All the best for the New Year
