Grand Illusion
The ultra innovative design, engineering , construction, layout and equipping of this vessel is aimed at (and, in our opinion, is certain to achieve) the following:
Overall goal:
To make our guests as happy as possible.
Sub goals:
1. To create an extremely safe platform by providing:
a) A platform that is literally (not virtually - like the Titanic) unsinkable. Very few things make people more unhappy than dog paddling in the middle of the ocean - with their boat sitting on the bottom - half a mile below them.
b) A platform that is extremely well designed, engineered and constructed in regard to all safety considerations.
c) A full complement of safety equipment.
2. To create a platform which, within reason, is capable of transporting small groups of persons where they choose, when they choose - without subjecting them to cruel and unusual punishment - by providing:
a) Extremely low tendency to instill sea sickness. To paraphrase Kenneth Grahame - "There is nothing, absaloutely nothing, less worth doing than simply messing about in boats - when one is suffering from acute seasickness".
b) Very long. lean, sharp hulls - enabling comfortable, yet fast and exciting open ocean performance - in normal sea conditions.
c) Spacious, wide open, well shaded accommodation with ample, comfortable, forward facing seating
d) Extremely low spray producing tendencies.
e) Extremely fuel efficient performance - thereby extending range and cruise duration capabilities - not to mention, doing our bit to save the planet.
f) A relatively small sail plan which, in additition to adding to fuel efficiency and speed, provides the steadying effect of a sailing vessel -- without the expense, hassle and somtimes scary power of a full size sailing rig.
3. To create a platform capable of comfortably serving the needs of small groups of persons in remote destinations - for periods of up to 7 days - by providing:
a) Ample, spacious, well ventilated and shaded lounging, seating and dining spaces aboard.
b) Ample catering facilities aboard.
c) Ample bathroom facilities aboard.
d) Ample utilities supply aboard.
e) An extensive array of beach camping equipment.
4. To create a platform enabling a wide variety of nautical activities, by providing:
a) Excellent stability, a well thought out layout and a vast array of equipment which, arguably, provides the best sport fishing capabilities of any vessel on this planet.
b) Extremely good diving and snorkeling capabilities.
c) A large fleet of tenders - enabling a wide variety of activities.
d) A wide variety of beach and water toys.
e) Extremely shallow draft.
